What We Do
CoResist host and produce events. We describe our work as a Transformative Arts Programme, and regularly collaborate with external facilitators, educators, theatre makers, events creators, and alike. What is transformative for an individual? A group? A community? Our society?
Below we have listed four main categories our events fall into. Generally these events take place at The Events Space, Hamilton House, Bristol. However we do also sometimes run events elsewhere.
If you work in any of the areas described, and like the sound of our approach, get in touch.
Theatre & Performance
We work with theatre makers, writers and directors & cabaret co-ordinators who have an excitement for political & social themes. We are interested in what ‘Transformative Arts’ means to each individual artist: It could be anything from a show about an individual's story of loneliness or of love, to an interactive, immersive political ‘game show’ about the nature of democracy. The key for us is that you are innovative in your thinking & creative practice.
CoResist programme shows on a box office split basis, we assist artists with marketing, provide some mentoring support, and offer access to low cost rehearsal space as part of a programming agreement.
CoResist produce two types of Transformative Workshops:
Performance: such as Storytelling, Clowning, Dance & Physical Theatre workshops. With a focus on individual development as well as being rooted in performance techniques.
Personal & Professional Development: Usually two day intensive workshops in specific personal and professional approaches.
For example Theatre Of The Oppressed or Speaking Out on Social Issues.
We curate a monthly storytelling evening: Storytelling Sunday. We collaborate with renowned and emerging storytellers. We’ve worked with Ivan Kushka, Michael Harvey, Claire Murphy and Sola Adebeyi, to name a few. Generally emerging tellers will be offered a short spot alongside a more established artists.
Community Focus Projects/ Events
These are events focused on raising funds for charity or raising awareness in the community. They event may include things like talks, film screenings, performance evenings. These events are wholly responsive to the ideas of the community, and we find a way to support & nurture your ideas.
